This quick start guide may be used to get your speaker switch setup and working without reference to the other detailed instructions. If you experience difficulty with these instructions then please review all of the other sections before contacting technical support. If you have not already done so, please check the Getting Started page first. Then move on to the quick setup instructions listed below.
Quick Setup Steps
Install the Speaker and Amplifier Wire Pairs
1. Open the package and unpack the unit and power pack.
2. Remove the speaker connectors “Out 1” to “Out 7” (as needed) and insert speaker wire pairs into each. Use wire strippers to strip the wire ends to 1/8” to 3/16” long. Use the 2mm flat screwdriver to clamp down the connector onto the wire pairs. Use your thumb and index finger to twist the strands into a bundle so that the strands remain together when you insert them into the connector holes. Ensure that ground/common/negative (-) are inserted into the two outer (outside) positions with the signal/positive (+) wires inserted into the two inner (middle) positions of each connector.
3. Reinsert the connectors back into their corresponding output positions in the rear of the speaker switch unit. Don't lose any of them!
4. Do the same process above for connecting the amplifier speaker output to the “Input” connection. Be careful to ensure that no speaker or amplifier wire strands are 'shorted' with one another.
Power Up the Speaker Switch
5. Plug the power pack into a wall outlet.
6. Plug the power connector into the receptacle (marked "+5V USB") on the rear of the unit.
7. Wait for the unit to completely start-up which takes about 30 seconds. The unit will flash all LED lights five times when ready.
Connect a Computer/Table/Phone to the Speaker Switch WiFi
8. Use a laptop, tablet, or mobile device to connect to WiFi SSID 'katoombasound' with password “thethreesisters” (hex: 746865746872656573697374657273). Wait for the connection to be made. Note that the connection does not provide access to the Internet so the connection may report a problem which can be ignored.
9. Use an Internet browser to go to http://192.168.4.123. If you cannot connect to http://192.168.4.123, check that your WiFi connection is working by pinging 192.168.4.123 from a command/terminal window. If your laptop/tablet/phone cannot ping 192.168.4.123, then check the WiFi connection.
10. Make sure that the speaker switch main page appears.
Connect the Speaker Switch to Your Home Wifi Network
11. On the speaker switch main page, press the “Settings” button and then press the “Network” tab.
12. Replace the ‘katoombasound’ SSID with your desired home SSID and then enter the home SSID password. Then press the button “Apply Changes”. Wait 45 seconds.
Connect a Computer/Table/Phone to your Home WiFi Network
13. Connect your laptop, tablet, or mobile device to your home SSID.
Find the Speaker Switch on Your Home WiFi Network
14. On the rear of the speaker switch unit, briefly press (for less than one second) the “Factory Reset” push button.
15. Use your browser to go to: https://www.katoombasound.com/tools/FindMySpeakerSwitch.php
16. Click on the “Last Detected Speaker Switch” link shown and proceed to configure and use your speaker switch.
17. If there is no last detected speaker switch seen then try scanning your WiFi network (ensure that you enter the correct address for your home WiFi network - usually 192.168.1.0).
18. If the speaker switch is not detected by the scan then you will need to reset the speaker switch by pressing and holding the rear “Factory Reset” button until the number 1 light begins flashing. Then wait 60 seconds. Then repeat steps 5 to 15 above.
19. Make sure that you bookmark (or save) the speaker switch URL (link) for future use.

20. It is best to run the latest version of software that is available for your speaker switch. Download the latest version and install it. See the Software Release Notes section for instructions on how to install the latest software update and links for downloading the latest software version.
